Colorado College Seniors Receive Competitive Awards to Travel, Study, and Teach Abroad
Students to Use Fulbright Grants to Explore the World

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – May 18, 2005 – Two Colorado College seniors have been awarded prestigious Fulbright grants to fund a year of exploration, travel, research or teaching outside the United States after they graduate.

Retta Bruegger, a comparative literature major from Snowmass, Colo., and Kempie Blythe, a religion major from Charlotte, N.C., received Fulbright grants.

Bruegger, a 2001 graduate of Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale, Colo., will develop her project “Conceiving Nature: Poetry and Song in Outer Mongolia,” examining how Mongolian poetry and song express an understanding of how humans relate to the natural world. Bruegger is the daughter of Margaretta and John Bruegger.

Blythe, a 2001 graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Conn., is the daughter of Connie and Frank Blythe of Charlotte. She will help teach English as a second language during her teaching assistantship in Indonesia.

Both Bruegger and Blythe will graduate from Colorado College on May 23.

The Fulbright Program was established in 1946 under legislation introduced by former Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas. The program is designed to increase international understanding and tolerance, and awards approximately 4,500 new grants annually. Fulbright alumni include Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners, governors and senators, ambassadors and artists, prime ministers and heads of state, professors and scientists, Supreme Court Justices and CEOs.
